Concentration pieces consist of a particular subject or an idea. My concentration was the merging of landscapes and my condition of chromesthesia.
My concentration is about the way I personally see music. I have a neurological condition called Chromesthesia, which is a branch of synesthesia. I see colors when I listen to music, but it's a personal view. Every person that has this receives different colors. The second part of my work are landscapes. For me, every piece of music has a landscape look alike. I aim to connect Chromesthesia and landscapes.
I started my concentration painting simple landscapes, since nature is one of my passions. I’ve almost camped at every lake and mountain in Oregon, so i’m able paint landscapes from my imagination. Although, when I paint, I listen to appropriate music that fits the mood of the scene. This sparked my neurological condition, chromesthesia. Chromesthesia is a condition where your brain transfers any form of music into various colors. Each person has their own version of chromesthesia, and also varies on mood. As I continued to create art, I started meshing them together. Such as dividing the painting in half with one side being soundwaves and color, and the other being a landscape the music reminded me of(#1 and #2) This then transferred to the color being in the landscape, such as replacing the whole sky(#3 and #4). From there, It moved to sound and color overlapping the landscape(#5, #6, and #7). Going on, I threw in an image, that if paired up with the last three, matched in style. This piece is relating a tree line with soundwaves seen at the bottom(#8). This next one takes the straight line form and throws it out the window. Piece #9 creates a more warped version of the last four, but still has the same idea. Next, I starting turning more abstract. I put together a simple piece, but one that speaks. There is a tree in the city that I took a photo of, but, I put the colors I see with a piece of music in by using physical oil pastels(#10). Then, I put together a cafe scene with a city background. Using a abstract thoughts and shapes, i constructed the top part of the painting(#11). Finally, going full abstract, I used multi-media to create shapes, objects, and most importantly, colors that I see(#12).
